*Review is for breakfast only, as I rarely get the opportunity to go in the afternoon. Usually when you compare something to it's price, it tends to mean that it's "not bad for $X." However, the breakfast tacos at this establishment are so good, they could very well get away with raising the prices with little complaint (if any). Yes the food is a little on the greasy side, but that's why people come to little holes in the wall like this: inexpensive and delicious tacos. Oh and that orange salsa/sauce they serve with the Juevos con Salsa? Dude, I want the recipe. They also have a small display of their baked goods, and their HUGE buttermilk biscuits are top notch!
Home made breakfast tacos! Fresh flour tortillas! Need I say more? There is always a line on the weekends but it is definitely worth it. They also serve authentic Mexican lunch plates as well (Chile rellenos, carne guisada, etc.)
This is as authentic as Mexican food can get on this side of the border. After two years living in either Austin or Dallas I have not found anything that comes close to Mexican food as this place has achieved. Get machacado, barbacoa, fajita, chicarron verde or just any taco. Also try any of the lunch plates, they're really good. Ps. I've been here at least 20 times. Also, tortillas are so good, my mom will take these back to Mexico and freeze them because they're fresher and taste better than the commercial Mexican brands (and as such the American brands as well).
The food had good flavor but it was a little greasy. A lot of the selections of food were sold out and they weren't making more (for example: the enchiladas, menudo). The restaurant is a dive with plenty of seating.
I was impressed by the local touch to flavor in a Hole in the wall environment. Good local Mexican food catering to the nearby working class.
This simple tortilleria not only has some great tortillas, tostadas and the traditional barbacoa and menudo on the weekends, but it is a great place to have lunch. They have a wide variety of guisados, arroz and frijoles for lunch as well as your breakfast taco compliments like potato and egg, egg and chorizo, chicharron, machacado, and the like. The food is fresh, well made and quickly served either to eat in the sparse dining area or to go. Check it out, you'll enjoy a good comida corrida for lunch.
I expected tortilleria emannuel to be a regular mexican spot -- botanas, enchiladas, tortillas and stuff. But what's funny is that it's a cafeteria kind of situation instead and it works well for the style and flavor they've developed. This spot is a one woman operation (as far as I can tell) with 10 types of tortilla fillings. They include a myriad of flavahs, from carne guisada to asada, puerco verde to chicharon. You choose what you want, for under $5, and are served your tacos piping hot with salsa on the table for extra hawtness. I'm not sure that I'll make a big effort to head back here but really the food is richly flavored, inexpensive and authentic. Just make sure you've got a spanish speaker with you!
